BSA Certificate in Basic Audiometry & Tympanometry
 24th, 25th & 26th February

This 3-day course is for those who are not audiologists by profession but work in health care and need to perform tests of hearing and middle ear function, for example Assistant Audiologists, Audiometricians, School Staff, Practice Nurses, ATOs, GPs and Health Visitors etc. The course meets the requirements of the British Society of Audiology Guidelines for Professionals who are not Qualified Audiologists, and is accredited by the BSA,  BSHAA and HAC.  

Students will be taught basic anatomy & physiology, correct test procedures for pure-tone threshold audiometry and tympanometry, interpretation of test results and ear examination technique. 

Assessment will be by written, oral and practical examination, and students will receive a BSA Certificate in Basic Audiometry & Tympanometry if they complete the course and reach the required standard of knowledge and competence. 

The course will be held at the Ramada Hotel & Resort, Robinswood Hill,  Gloucester.

The course fee covers tuition, detailed course notes and registration for the the BSA Certificate. Excellent cooked lunch and refreshments are also provided.

Lectures start at 9.15 daily and finish around 5pm. Dress is casual.

All equipment will be supplied, so there is no need to bring an audiometer, tympanometer or otoscope.

Course Outline

Day 1

Basic anatomy, introduction to hearing loss.

The audiogram, threshold testing, air & bone conduction.

Reliability of results, test environment, calibration requirements. Use of a Sound Level Meter

Practice audiometry

 

Day 2

Tympanometry, including its use in diagnosis

Non-organic hearing loss. Use of otoscope 

Practice audiometry and tympanometry.

Day 3

Practice audiometry and tympanometry

Assessment of practical skills

Oral and written examination of theoretical knowledge

 

Written homework on the theory content of the course.
